Raku Fired Stoneware

$800

This piece emerged from a longing for change, shaped by the constraints of my surroundings. When my vessel collapsed, I transformed it, tearing into the clay to create openings that symbolize growth. Ruffled, flower-like textures formed, embodying expansion. Raku firing added unpredictability, reflecting the beauty of breaking, reshaping, and blooming.

Artist's Statement:

I’m a ceramicist and photographer living in Richmond, Virginia drawn to themes of femininity, nature, and nostalgia. I graduated with a BFA in Art Education from Longwood University in December 2024, and my work is always evolving alongside my personal fixations and experiences. In ceramics, I use both wheel-throwing and hand-building techniques, focusing heavily on surface design. I love experimenting with texture, carving, and underglaze painting to bring out details that make each piece feel special.

Lately, my pottery has been inspired by different expressions of femininity, whether that’s through vintage fashion or delicate floral forms. My sculptural work, on the other hand, leans into nature’s fragility, using negative space and organic textures to capture a sense of impermanence.

My photography shares a similar spirit. I aim to create images that feel dreamy and nostalgic, almost like a memory you can’t quite place. Soft lighting, vintage-inspired tones, and an ethereal quality all play a role in making my photos feel like they exist just outside of time. Whether I’m working with clay or a camera, I want my art to feel personal, yet familiar, like something you’ve seen before in a dream.
