This bowl is thrown on the wheel and altered by adding the raised detail. This piece is inspired by movement and contrast, the way the barbed band curves around the smooth bowl, the opposition of glossy glaze, matte glaze, and unglazed clay.

Artist's Statement:

My goal is to create forms that are flawlessly functional as well as whimsically and organically designed. I put meticulous care into creating balanced shapes with thoughtful ergonomic considerations, with the goal of creating pieces that are comforting and comfortable to use on a daily basis. In my designs I seek to explore pairing measured forms that have earnestly practiced with surfaces and glazing technique that is gestural, whimsical, and often imprecise. At the core of my work is a desire to reconcile the impulse to work towards precision with the inevitability of imperfection that comes with handmade processes and the human touch.
