Realizing there were two explorers on this coneflower, I saw a contrast in the bee’s relaxed position compared to the spider. After cropping the image, I used wet-in-wet painting in the background and wet-on-dry with multiple glazes for the flower and figures. This was an enjoyable challenge.

Artist's Statement:

Throughout her life, Kathleen enjoyed drawing and painting for personal or family projects but only occasionally. Recently, she started pursuing watercolor painting in earnest with a focus on improving her technique, closeup views of the garden, individual plants and flowers, and landscapes. Each painting is a discovery, a celebration of creation, and hopefully, something pleasant to view.
