"Lemons" is part of an ongoing series of slightly abstracted paintings from life. Most of these paintings are on wood panels. They all start with a layer of acrylic gesso. After the gesso, I work with watercolor, gouache, and Caran d'Ache watercolor crayons. The gesso is nonabsorbent making the surface slick. It can be a little challenging and not a traditional watercolor painting technique but it is so much fun. I really enjoy the play of pattern against the smoother areas and the light that comes through the various layers.
