This scene was inspired by a walk along the coast of Skagen, Denmark, a peaceful fishing town known for inspiring artists for generations, particularly the Skagen Artists of the 19th Century. The Baltic and North Seas join at this northern point in Denmark.

Artist's Statement:

I enjoy transporting the viewer to times and places of nature, comfort, warmth, nostalgia and hopefulness through light and color. My work has often been inspired by my experiences growing up on a Virginia farm with a very large and colorful family and many animals.

Half of the family migrated to Florida, where beach and a family orchard have also been the subject of my work. My maternal grandmother grew up at Uayalceh, a hacienda in the Yucatan, the subject of many childhood stories, which has also provided fodder for my artistic imagination. My work has also included portraiture and landscapes communicating the beauty of Richmond, the countryside of Allegheny and Bath Counties, and scenes of travel in Europe.

Largely self-taught and part of a family of many artists, I have drawn or painted my entire life. Over the last 25 years I have honed my artistic skills through workshops and classes at Nimrod Hall, the Visual Art Center of Richmond, Pine Camp Arts, and through painting with friends. I am a juried artist member of the Metropolitan Art Association of Richmond and the James River Arts League.
