This piece was inspired by the artist's work as a literacy tutor at READ RVA, a non-profit dedicated to changing lives through adult literacy. More than 100,000 people in Metro Richmond lack basic literacy skills. Partial proceeds from the sale of this painting will be donated to READ RVA.

Artist's Statement:

Art is about nourishment. It feeds the soul. From the start of each painting, I strive to capture the essence of the subject through a process of discovery combining curiosity, analysis, and intuition. Compelling paintings are founded on the visual artist's unique work flow -- eye, brain, heart and hand. Art fosters interconnections capable of touching the deepest parts of a human being. Creating art that nurtures myself and the emotional well-being of others is at the core of my art practice.
