I love the seeing the power of the ocean waves breaking on the cliff walls. It shows the power, beauty and colors of nature from the sea to the sky.

Artist's Statement:

I was born and raised in Richmond, Va. I attended St. Gertrudes High School then went on to pursue my B.S. degree as a Clinical Lab Specialist at the VCU Medical Center. I worked in this field until I retired. I have always enjoyed art, and would visit museums here in Richmond and in places I traveled to. Seeing the beautiful paintings hanging in these museums, I would wonder how they even started these masterpieces. I sketched and dabbled in watercolors when I was young until one day I finally decided to take an art class at the Crossroads Art Center given by Curney Nuff. I loved it. Nature and wildlife have always interested me, going on hikes in the Blue Ridge Mountains or just taking walks observing mother nature, it's colors and all forms of wildlife. Taking what I see and expressing it on canvas is such a wonderful feeling, a sense of accomplishment and satisfaction. I spent several weeks in Italy and saw some magnificent paintings and sculptures that I will never forget, very awe inspiring. Gabrielle  Ward
