In this picture, I used acrylic in the background to which allows is to be subdued. The flower petals painted in vivid oil. The roses are in warm fiery tones-using rich yellows, oranges and red- the desire was to create a contrast against the dark background.

Artist's Statement:

In January, I had a dream that I needed to paint flowers. Since that time, that's what I have primarily done. Although I have always appreciated flowers, I had not looked at the intricated beauty created by every line, shadow, and vibrant color that makes up the flower. To me, they represent the fleeting nature of life. One cannot fully appreciate the short-lived beauty of a flower, and the delicate parts create a whole until you step back to see it all together.
