I first started painting with acrylics during art class in high school, then entered a long hiatus once my career got started. My painting began again in 2010 with an abortive attempt at a portrait of my daughter. Frustrated, I looked for a different instructor and found Adele Castillo. Her use of color attracted me. With her guidance my skill has improved, and my style has evolved into what some have called photo realism. Although I always work from reference photos, there is allowance for variations from the color when it enhances the final image.

 During the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020 I shifted from larger formats to smaller works. These now include ten 12” x 12” flower paintings. All of these have been on a black background that leans a bit to green. This painting is creatively titled Orchid #2 because it is my second attempt at an orchid.

 Oh! Yes, I did go back and finish that first portrait of my daughter.
