Alicia Dietz
Drawing from my experience as a U.S. Army Blackhawk helicopter pilot, I’ve gained a unique perspective on the movement of landscapes. Flying taught me about rhythm and flow – how deep valleys give way to open plains and towering peaks. These are not systematic arrangements but reflections of the natural flow of life.
This way of looking at the world reveals itself in both literal and abstract ways. The live edge of the tree varies with each piece, as does the horizon it creates. In true wabi-sabi nature, no two are identical.
For me, trees exemplify the cyclical nature of life. They start as tiny seedlings and grow to massive pillars - withstanding soul-crushing storms. Each year, they shed their leaves, brush away dead weight and start anew. Concrete is made of almost 50% sand that once started as large rocks. They’ve weathered and eroded as they’ve traversed miles of oceans, rivers, and streams. Both materials celebrate the strength and beauty we gain from our hardships.
Craft has been the map by which I navigate. I hope these pieces may serve as a map of who we are, where we want to go, and who we want to become. At the very least, as an opportunity to appreciate the view along the way.
I stared Alicia Dietz Studios in 2016 and have been running a successful one-woman business since. I live and work in Richmond, Virginia with my partner of 22 years.

Michele Song ~ Textile Artist
Michele is a textile artist specializing in dimensional landscape art and textile concept art. After a career spent in the precision and care of ICU nursing, she found a new calling in the world of art. This shift from medicine to creative expression has allowed her to explore and appreciate the beautiful chaos of the world. She purchased her first sewing machine a few years ago and hasn’t been able to step away from it. Nursing was her calling, but sewing is her new passion. Nursing required precision and accuracy, but she resists that urge when it comes time to create. Her work is defined by a free-form approach to sewing, trading traditional quilting patterns for intuitive layering, movement, and dimension.
By incorporating various textiles, including repurposed fabrics, denim, vintage laces, and felt, alongside mediums such as acrylic and watercolor, she allows the inherent character of the materials to dictate the flow of each piece.
