This work examines the historical and cultural significance of symbols, and how placing them alongside unexpected elements can challenge and disrupt familiar narratives. The inspiration came during my travels through the southwestern United States.
Artist's Statement:
As a contemporary realist oil painter, my current body of work investigates the historical and cultural meanings behind symbols. I carefully select objects for their potential to evoke associations drawn from overlooked or marginalized cultures, often juxtaposing them with unexpected elements to disrupt familiar narratives. This intentional contrast invites viewers to reconsider conventional interpretations, prompting new cycles of thought, connection, and inquiry into ideas that may have previously gone unexplored.
