Oil on Cradled Wood Panel

$325

Autumn in the Blue Ridge Mountains is Spectacular! Out walking one day, I came up on this scene which perfectly illustrates the brilliance of the colors that appear during this season. The little tree was aflame against the white board fence with golden grass beneath it. This was done on a recycled cradle wood panel with paint knives and brushes.

Artist Statement:

It is the wonder of the natural world that inspires me. I live in a fairly remote place in the mountains of central Virginia, surrounded by woods, fields, and wildlife. We spend a portion of every year at the water where the waterfowl and waves offer fresh inspiration. Wherever I am, if I am at a loss as to what to paint, all I have to do is take a walk. Always, there will be something of interest or impact to drive me back into my paints.
Creating art is an integral part of every day for me. I love the buttery texture of oil paint. The tactile experience of swiping paint onto canvas never loses its appeal. I use a variety of tools in the process: paint knives, Rosemary & Co. brushes, squeegees, etc. Texture is created with thick oil paint, adding a bit of cold wax to the paint or walnut oil when necessary.
Color is used to manipulate light and shadow, making suggestions with gestural marks, while leaving something to the imagination. There is a story behind every piece. A collector’s impression of that story is not always the same as mine and that is part of the fun!
