Loryn Brazier


She spent a year traveling and studying works in the great museums of Europe which inspired her to switch artistic focus to painting, and influenced her desire to be a narrative portrait painter.
Since then, hundreds of public figures have posed for her as well as countless private clients. Her portraits are included in the permanent collections of the Smithsonian National Portrait Gallery and the National Museum of Women in the Arts, both in Washington, D. C.
Portraits and paintings by Brazier hang in Federal and State courtrooms, corporate, government, financial, and religious institutions, universities, foundations, and private homes. Her advertising work, portraits, and paintings have won awards through the years.
Her work has been published in the following books: The Best of Oil Painting (1996), Portrait Inspirations (1998) and How Did You Paint That? 100 Ways to Paint People and Figures (2005) Articles about her have appeared in October/November, 2002 Issue of International Artist magazine, and in the August, 2002 issue of American Artist magazine. She has received awards from the Portrait Society of America on three occasions.
Loryn Brazier's work has been influenced by artists such as P. S. Kroyer, John Singer Sargent, Cecilia Beaux, and Joaquin Sorolla.
Brazier Gallery opened in 1995 and represented 30 artist from the U.S. and Canada. She recently closed the gallery after 23 years of showing representational work. Because of her love for painting outdoors, Brazier founded Plein Air Richmond in 2012, which was an annual charitable event.

LORYN BRAZIER – PORTRAITS
Price List and Policy
All portraits are done in oil on canvas or linen.
Portrait cost is determined by the portion of the figure in the painting rather than the painting size. Portraits will be life size or under. (Except in special circumstances, larger than life size figures appear unnatural.)
Prices*
Children $ 8,500.00-$10,500.
Bust (head and shoulders) $10,500.00
½ Figure - ¾ Figure $15,000.00 - $18,000.00
Full Figure $20,000.00
Portraits in the Grand Manner (extra large format) $25,000.00 and up
*Additional Figures and Pets:
Each additional figure in the same portrait is 50% of the cost of the first figure.
Each pet in the portrait is $800.
Complex backgrounds are an additional $1,000.
Frames
Prices listed do not include frames. If the client wishes, the artist will be glad to assist in the frame selection.
Final Portrait Size
The artist will work with the client and make a recommendation on the size of the portrait, often based upon where the portrait will hang. The artist reserves the right to alter the size of the portrait slightly to enhance the composition of the portrait. This will not reflect a price change.
Procedure
The artist works from a combination of photographs taken or approved by her and sittings, if possible. She sometimes makes a compositional sketch or head study for the client before beginning. The cost of the photography is included in the listed price when taken by the artist.
In some circumstances, photography may be an additional charge. Travel and expenses are additional charges. Crating and shipping are additional charges.
Payment Schedule
One-third payment deposit is requested with the signing of the contract and establishes a place on the artist’s waiting list. An additional one-third is requested when work begins and the final one-third, plus the tax on the whole, is paid at the time of delivery. You will receive statements as these payments come due.
