My work is always landscape based and with the up and coming fall and the fields surrounding where I live it seemed like a natural transition into expressing with paint.
Artist's Statement:
Artist and Painter Lisa Macchi is an abstract expressionist and modern impressionist painter known for her collage-infused works that blend spontaneity with layered, tactile surfaces She has been active in the art world for decades, with a career that includes formal training, recognition in group shows, and a return to full-time painting after a 25-year hiatus she return to painting.

Macchi earned her BFA in painting from Philadelphia’s Tyler School of Art in 1966
She later studied at New York’s prestigious Art Students League, where she worked with modernist Knox Martin and Peter Golfinopoulos, gaining a strong sense of shape and the plasticity of paint
Scholarships took her to the Provincetown Workshop on Cape Cod, where she studied with Leo Manso and Victor Candell. Manso, a master of collage, often integrated collage elements into the paint itself, a technique Macchi has adopted, embedding scraps of paper and even dried paint chunks into her canvases. Her work is process-driven, emphasizing the physical act of painting and the interaction with the medium
She often uses torn paper (never cutting it) and other two-dimensional materials, which become integral to the composition, influencing how she paints around them. Her approach is described as “disrupting the paint,” with energetic, almost action-painting gestures using palette knives, fingers, and Sharpie markers. Many works evoke landscapes with a horizon line, despite their dense, abstract surfaces
