Merino Wool, Bamboo Yarn on Polysilk Fabric

I love sunflowers - they have such bright and cheerful faces. I wanted to create a nuno felt piece that shared their beauty and that could be worn. I used the nuno felt process to create this scarf. Nuno felting is the art of combining wool roving, a host of embellishment fibers and a fabric like silk, poly silk, or viscose, through the use of water, soap and agitation, to create a hybrid sort of fabric. The wool shrinks and, on this case, produced a ruffle effect.
Artist's Statement:
I've always been fascinated by the creative possibilities of fabric and yarn. My grandmother taught me knitting and sewing, which led me to making my own clothing and sweaters, even while I was music school. In 2016, I put down the violin and the baton and started weaving. Since then, I've added wet, nuno and needle felting to my artistic repertoire. Most of my inspiration comes from the color of the fiber I'm using, and nature, especially flowers.
