Richmond’s love for the James River and regularly passing trains along side it, are ingrained in the pulse of the city. Under the bridge you’ll hear music, a train, waters rushing past, and settling in slow, much like the city life of RVA. With a melody, and in harmony. You’re there.

Artist Statement: 

Originally from Boston, MA, Karen has been a Richmond, VA resident for over 20 years.  A self taught artist and former stay at home mom, Karen enjoyed creating art with her children as a bonding activity.

Signing her paintings “palmer K”, Karen is influenced by impressionism and inspired by both her love of playing music and being outdoors in nature.  She is drawn to paint instruments, musicians, landscapes, floral scenery, all to create art in a variety of styles.  When she paints, Karen goes where the canvas takes her using whatever tools and mediums she is inspired to use.  Karen’s goal when she paints is to create and title a piece that is both pleasing to the eye, evokes an emotion of familiarity and enjoyment, while also drawing the viewer in for a second look to connect with her art.

Utilizing her fine art as a foundation, Karen ventured into the realm of unique pattern design, leading to the debut of a fabric and pillow line unveiled at High Point Market.  Her collections incorporate geometrics, instruments, and musicians subtly present within the pattern repeats, bringing the timeless joy of music into home decor.
