Lois Baird

ARTIST STATEMENT:
A representational painter, both studio and plein air, my work is a collection of landscape,
seascapes, and figurative oil paintings. My seascapes and landscapes are inspired by a love
for the streams and lakes in Virginia and the coastal waters of the Outer Banks of North
Carolina. I have enjoyed the calmness and serenity painting has brought me. As an avid
photographer and outdoor enthusiast, I was naturally drawn to plein air painting. I can
often look at one of my finished plein air painting and remember the sounds of the
rippling water, the warmth of the sun, and how the light and shadows danced while I
painted. If my art can draw the viewer into the scene and create a similar feeling, then I
consider it a successful painting.

I have traveled to Europe, and up and down the eastern seaboard of the U.S. painting
plein air and taking photographs to use as inspiration for my studio paintings. In order to
quench my passions for traveling and painting, I have attended numerous plein air
workshops in France, England and Monhegan Island, Maine.

I currently live between Richmond and Fredericksburg, Virginia on the shores of
beautiful Lake Anna, and part of the year on the Outer Banks, in Nags Head, North
Carolina. My work can be seen on my website: http://loisbaird.com.
