The Red, White & Blue reimagines the American flag through mosaic form, using repeated glass tiles to symbolize the strength found in unity and repetition across generations. Created in honor of America’s 250th anniversary, the piece reflects both tradition and modern design. Its structured pattern celebrates resilience, freedom, and the enduring spirit of a nation built one piece at a time.
Artist's Statement:
Jenni is a Gallery/Art Center Owner as well as a Mosaicist. She started taking mosaic classes in 1997 in Orlando Florida where she studied under Michelle Petno. After moving to Richmond in 1999, she started teaching out of her Studio in Shockoe Bottom Art Center, as well as at The Virginia Museum of Fine Art, The Visual Art Center, John Tyler Community College, J. Sergeant Community College, University of Richmond and Crossroads Art Center. Jenni furthered her studies in both Rome and Ravenna, Italy. First, in Rome with Enzo Aiello, who studied at the Vatican and then in Ravenna, Italy at the Mosaic’s Art School.
Jenni believes that there is something so intriguing, so "contagious" about mosaics that you just want to create! She finds it impossible to be bored with mosaics. Jenni also states it is relaxing, therapeutic, and fun! And the bonus -- Anyone can do it!
