This painting captures a stand of trees at Texas Beach in Richmond, Virginia. I was drawn in by the beautiful starkness of the scene-- heavy shadows contrasted with bright glints of light, sharp angles, and spare palette.

Artist Statement:

I mainly paint with watercolors or other wet medial. I appreciate watercolors for their element of surprise. Water, by nature, adds a degree of spontaneity.  I allow myself to enter a playful relationship with the medium, experimenting each time I pick up a brush. I find painting to be a meditative practice that oscillates between carefully considering the details and panning out to discern patterns and expression. Each time I move from one to the other, I get to know the subject and my relationship to it more intimately.
