Sharon Melton
Sharon Melton has loved art for as long as she can remember; however, it wasn’t until later in her life that she was able to begin that journey. Her art is primarily focused on realism, or her representation of reality, although her creations continue to evolve. She explores the fusion of Representational art and Abstraction to express her vision and ever-changing voice. Painting has always been her primary focus, but she continues to explore and create with many mediums. Her primary medium is oil on linen. She strives to express her voice and convey feelings with a simple stroke of her brush. She aims to elicit emotion in viewers through subject, color, technique, or atmosphere. Her subject matter varies from people, wildlife, landscapes, and many things in between. She sees every day as a learning experience; she explores each new horizon to find ways to create another moment that will last.
Sharon Melton’s art appears to mark a moment in time, an event or emotion, a mood or place; it’s an expression of her, her voice, and it documents who she is.
Sharon is a founding member of Swift Creek Artists, a small group of artists with the same vision, creating beautiful paintings. She is a member of the Bon Air Artists Association in Richmond, and her work has been shown in various locations.
Biography
Sharon was born in Hopewell, Virginia, and reared in South Miami, Florida, returning to Virginia as a young adult. She remembers having the desire to draw as a child. She worked full-time as a registered nurse, and that career, along with raising a family, consumed most of her time. She has always had the desire to paint and dabbled with it occasionally over the years. Throughout Sharon’s life, she has taken a few classes to learn how to start painting. She has taken a drawing class here and there, but mostly, she would say she is a self-taught artist. However, Sharon has recently been mentored by a master artist, Kathy Rivera, who has provided a wealth of information and guidance. She has helped her bring her art to fruition and opened pathways for her to evolve. Sharon is passionate about painting; she says it is comforting and enables her to release and get lost in her creations. She has noticed that her art tends to mark a moment in time or an emotion that she was feeling at the time. Clearly, she is inspired by other artists, but mostly, she is inspired by the beauty that surrounds her and the illusions of what is or is not, which excites her. As Sharon grows as an artist, she hopes to create paintings that convey a message that brings joy to their heart.
