Susan SingerScenes of Beauty Along the Path
by Susan Singer
Several mornings each week, regardless of how hot or cold it is, Susan Singer drives down to Pony Pasture south of the James River to walk beside the river. She has become familiar with many of the trees along the way including her favorites she has named the Double Trees (on display here) which she has painted scores of times in all weathers and seasons. Not only does she walk by the river, she also kayaks on the river and paints the shores from the boat. She draws great inspiration from the beauty around her.
Singer’s home is in Richmond, but she also travels extensively in order to stimulate her creative juices and to give herself more scenes to paint. Iceland is a favorite destination, though Mexico and Austria play a big role in her artwork as well.
Singer’s primary medium is Soft Pastels, a luscious, vibrant medium which is well-suited for landscapes. She also works in watercolor and has found it ideal for the architectural renderings she so enjoys creating.
Susan Singer is a professional artist living in Richmond, VA and traveling frequently to beautiful places around the world including Iceland, Mexico, and Austria where she paints landscapes which make her heart sing. When not traveling and painting landscapes, she works in watercolor or oils or graphite and has created many series of work including Beyond Barbie, 12 Naked Men, Scar Series, The Eyes Project, and her pandemic project, Pastel a Day (she created a painting and sent out a post every single day in 2020 and is continuing still though using many different mediums, not just
pastels). Singer has a Masters in Interdisciplinary Studies from VCU. She teaches many different classes (Watercolor, Beginning Drawing, Zentangles, Pastels, and more) at her home studio. Feel free to contact her to learn more about her classes, to take private lessons, or to sign up for her daily newsletter. She would love to hear from you. SusanSingerArt@msn.com.
