Creation’s resiliency symbolized by subtle interweaving of trees, bloodshed and tears ~ Vintage hankies were used for trees. Also inspired by Song lyrics from “Paint your own world” by Noteline.
Artist's Statement:
My back story is grounded in northern Minnesota where the seasons moved seamlessly with the texture and rhythm of my Grandma’s stitching. It’s where I began painting at 14 and continued in the arts while raising my family and eventually settling in Virginia.
Pastels were just the beginning of an artistic style that has evolved into a contemplative art form, blending organic simplicity with the practical and unappreciated pieces of life. Botanicals and leaves seem to have their own voice that I allow to come forth naturally throughout the “Eco-printing’ process. The final result is a serendipitous moment that inspires me.
Stitching needle and thread to pre-loved cloth is a tethering of historical value and the present living world….a meditative way of connecting the seasons in life and nature’s rhythm with back stories that influence our thoughts about where we have been and where we are going.
The profound loss of my sister in 2021 has led me to find solace in cherished memories, expressed through repurposed fabrics and a constant connection to nature. This journey has become a source of comfort in grief, helping me move forward while honoring life worth living.
