Between Words Description:
This painting grew from memories of the artist and her three sisters coming of age in the 1970s  and ‘80s, when the corded telephone was central to our social lives. For countless hours the artist was tethered to one spot, talking with friends and boyfriends, exchanging confidences while trying to remain just beyond the family’s hearing. Before connection became constant, portable, and public, it existed largely through a voice at the other end of a cord. At six feet tall, this private domestic moment becomes monumental -- a tribute to adolescence, anticipation, and a once-familiar way of being connected.
