Artist's Statement:
From my early teens in the sixties, I can remember wandering the Ohio woods and countryside sketching and painting. Gratefully supplied and encouraged by a beloved art teacher in those early years, that journey continues. I believe that all of life has an impact and Influence upon our creativity, and continues to, as we change and grow. I have always struggled to find the words to communicate about art adequately. Words to convey something I find elusive and intangible belies the very reason I paint. I feel that Art should capture something that words alone cannot.
While I gravitate towards oil painting and pastels, I love the excitement and challenge of different mediums and the unique voice that each has. Whether painting en plein air or in my studio, my goal is a spiritual interpretation of life around and within, not purely representational . I am continually mesmerized by the play of light and shadows, the subtle illusion of ever changing shapes and the emotive qualities of color — like chasing the elusive reality within a dream.
