Natalya Khabinsky has always had a passion for making things; she started sewing when she was 10 years old. A few years ago, Natalya turned her attention to beaded jewelry. And while she enjoyed creating beaded pieces, she felt it was time to try something different. Recently, Natalya discovered the craft of wire weaving. It took a while for her to learn how to work with wire. “It's a challenging material, and the weaving process is complex." Each piece takes time, but she finds the process incredibly satisfying. Natalya is passionate about her work. She loves natural stones and likes to think of her pieces as a kind of frame for these gemstones, a way to enhance their existent beauty. Natalya works with both raw and colored copper wire and is always on the hunt for the most beautiful natural stones and handmade glass beads to best complement her wire creations.
From the artists --
I have always loved natural stones and about four years ago, decided to start using copper wire to frame these stones. I find that copper, unlike other metals, imparts a certain warmth. It also has a certain free-spirited, bohemian quality. After watching countless YouTube tutorials—many from fellow Russian jewelers!—I became proficient in a technique called wire weaving. This technique allows for a lot of artistic creativity; you can make changes on the fly without compromising the integrity of the rest of the piece.
In this pendant, I used a variety of weaves, which I think adds interest and makes the piece more eye-catching. The small glass ball bead also contrasts nicely with the long, vertical stone.
