Supernova 1987A and 1987 Me
16 x 16 x 1.5"
Acrylic on Canvas

In February 1987, astronomers first observed one of the most important supernovas in history, named SN 1987A. I choose to imagine this exploding blue supergiant star in a way the 1987 kid-version of me would have envisioned, bedazzled with fun pinks and purples delighting observers everywhere back in my favorite year of the 80s.
Artist's Statement:
Many of my abstract paintings feature fun and stylish colors from things I love in life. As a child of the 80s, I am inspired by vintage items such as toys, cartoons, fashion accessories, school supplies, stickers, and so much more, many of which come from my personal retro collection. I also draw inspiration from trips to Disney World, including its characters and sights. My medium of choice is acrylic paint and I have enjoyed abstract painting since 2003 with a love for the visual arts since childhood.
