Artist's Statement:
I’m Susan Hope Breckenridge, a mixed-media artist from Richmond, Virginia. I work with a wide range of materials—acrylic, modeling paste, oil pastels, pouring paints, aerosols, oils, decoupage, glitter, gilding, resin miniatures, found objects, sand! —anything that sparks curiosity. My work often explores the messy beauty of transformation and the quiet logic that holds it all together. Symbolism and texture play key roles in all of my work. I love spirals, flowers, birds, keys, rocks, planets, clocks, birch trees, and leaves. Metallics add depth to the surface, making it hard to ignore. Gates and windows hint at entry and exit points in the chapters of life. I also like to have a little fun by embedding hidden objects, puzzles, patterns, and the unexpected. I named my passion The Shiny Object Studio because in my world, all things are connected.
