The beautiful CSX A-Line Bridge wows me from a design standpoint, and is a symbol of the strong connection many of us feel to Richmond’s beauty and resilience. RVA is such an inspiring place for artists, designers, and nature lovers, and this hand-built, hand-painted planter is my way to honor that.
Artist Statement:
I’m a Richmond, Virginia ceramic artist with a BFA in design and art education. I spent several years as a high school art and graphics teacher, and experimented with many mediums before focusing on clay. In January 2021, I took my first ceramic hand building and surface decoration class and fell in love. It was thrilling to discover I could use clay as a delightfully malleable canvas, bringing in my painting and graphic design background. My passion is combining unusual forms with creative imagery- making work that will hopefully help people smile and feel inspired. In addition to selling my functional work at local markets, I have started exploring sculpture as a form of expression. I also teach ceramic surface decoration at The Visual Arts Center. I’m thrilled to be back in the classroom, this time helping students discover the endless possibilities of clay.
